twice a wide a most passenger car tyres, stock car tyres are made of soft rubber to grip the track .
the extra width and smooth tyre surface mean that lots af rubber is touching the track. more rubber on the road mean better grip...... as long as the racetrack stays dry.
stock cars don't usually race in the rain. on the racetracks where cars do race in wet weather, they use tyres with treads.
on fast racetraks, drivers use tyres with a inner liner. the inner liner is like a second tyre mounted inside the first tyre. if the outer tyre blows, the inner tyre allows the driver to come to a controller stop.
